We were in line to land on this runway as this happened, we landed on a different island and were put on an overcrowded boat in rough weather to Tenerife- arriving days later without knowing what was going on. News traveled way more slowly in those days.. & I guess they didn’t want to lose the tourists, but the whole island was numb with shock.
