I definitely believe there are benefits and disadvantages when it comes to any imaging software.
Personally, I enjoy doing my sketch work Photoshop and the opening it up in Painter X to color and finish it. I've only recently tried Open Canvas and (very roughly putting it) from what I've learned so far, it's like a modest combo of Photoshop and Painter. It's also very user friendly. Not many menus and quick to grasp.

However, it's usually always boils down to personal preference. Whichever you've come accustomed to winds up being your "go to" software. I think one of the best advantages to Open Canvas is that it's free. Hahaha.
