@zooskifilms thanks! tried that and things look a bit better. i totally forgot about the different iso settings when it comes to video instead of photography >.<

If you read through any of the Canon 5D blogs they recommend setting your ISO at native 160 or multiples of that. Try 160 or 320 and then compare results.
