Hostage Standoff - Jewel-Osco - Clinton, Iowa - 05.17.09

The only short video I recorded of the hostage situation at the Jewel-Osco grocery store in Clinton, Iowa on 05.17.09. It all took place from approx. 6:30pm-10:00pm CST.

CLINTON, Iowa — Clinton police have identified the man who allegedly held two hostages in a Clinton grocery store for about three hours last night as Patrick Guynn, 22.

Police say Guynn entered the Jewell-Osco store at 1307 N. 2nd St. at about 6:29 p.m. armed with an AR-15 rifle and had an employee set off the fire alarm, causing the customers and most of the employees to leave the building. Guynn, who police believe is an employee at the store, took two employees hostage, Zachary Lamp, 19, and Melissa Quick, 19, according to authorities.

Capt. Mike Gertson of the Clinton Police Department said Quick was believed to be Guynns ex-girlfriend.

Police negotiators convinced Guynn to release Lamp at about 9:10 p.m., and convinced Guynn to release Quick and surrender himself around 9:34 p.m.

Neither hostage was harmed. Guynn had cuts on his arms and hands that were believed to be self-inflicted but not life-threatening, and he was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Clinton.

There were shots fired in the store during the standoff, but they were not fired at the hostages, according to police.

CLINTON, Iowa — Clinton police filed charges Monday afternoon against Patrick Guynn in Sundays hostage standoff.

Guynn, 22, of 1529 Spring Valley Lane, was released from Mercy Medical Center-Clinton, then was arrested at the hospital and transported to the Clinton County Jail.

He faces two charges of second-degree kidnapping, Class B felonies; intimidation with a dangerous weapon, Class C felony; and second-degree criminal mischief, a Class D felony.

you know what i know the guy who did all this i went to high school with him and he lived with my aunt and my uncle. he was there just a couple days before he did all of this.  he also was at my moms work five hours before doing all of this that day isnt that jus nuts?

I do know you like to video and I like most of what I've seen of yours (especially the HUGE favor you did for me with the RiverChor videos!!) but this particular 1:25 seems rather pointless. Nothing educational or enlightening about it, just the backside of what I presume is a sharpshooter.

Well, one thing it shows as well as the other hostage standoff videos...people wont get away with pulling these stunts, so there is no point in them doing it in the 1st place. Maybe these videos will get some people to think more before they act. They should seek help.

and just so you can have the whole sotry, pat never intended to walk out of there...the only reason the rifle was loaded was so he could take his own life...

all that said, the cop in the video with the rifle...ive seen him shoot and he would be lucky to hit the front of that store...clinton cops should only be allowed to carry a roll of quarters because their terrable shots

I remember how fucked up this was. I knew the person who did this fairly well. we went to a church youth group trip together and I actually roomed with him..

it was missys fault. i worked at jewel and managers told me she should have been fired and shuld have gotten into alot of trouble.

You want to know whats really crazy is how people can have multiple children then try and raise them in a NASTY enviroment thats whats really crazy can you tell me how that isnt cause your parents sure couldnt i have a 3 yr old and would never try and raise him in such poor conditions as to not even having warm water to bathe in and living in a human dump good thing the city condemned your house in lyons and kicked you out cause you would probably still be living in the filth

He most definitely was not at Harbor Crest earlier that day! I was with him until 2:00 pm when I brought him home to get ready for work. Stop spreading rumors... The guy that did this is my best friend
