Truly impressive. I imagine all the positions could become a distraction to the spiritual pursuit... like a game with contortion, balance and strength.
This is a real question I have about yoga. I'm not being critical of the practice. I practice vipassana which is a mindfulness yogic practice centered on the breath and awareness of bodily sensation. I think it is precisely because it is so boring that it is so difficult and rewarding.

Hi Tony. I agree that what's valuable about vipassana is the challenge of it. Asana practice is certainly different, and certainly valuable for different reasons. I don't know that I'd call it a game, however.
I have different ideas about spirituality than most yogis, but I find my asana practice one thing that helps me to develop spiritually. Certainly it isn't the only thing. Not enough space to go in to this here, though.
