  • Thats great thanks datawind just one more quick question does it need a wireless router thanks very much.

  • No need for WiFi as it connects via an inbuilt GPRS modem with its own embedded Sim card and as you can see from the video it can still download sites and PDF's etc quicker than the iPhone on a ;fast' 3G connection, which means you can take advantage of the wider coverage offered by the more ubiquitous GPRS network - basically it'll get you on the net anywhere you can get a mobile phone signal.

  • Also can you go on msn and ebay just wondering as not sure what you can and cant go on with the pocketsurfer.

  • Indeed, both msn messenger and ebay are fully supported, basically any site you can get onto with your home broadband PC, with the only limitation being the lack of audio or streaming video. Any Flash content will be displayed but just a frame at a time, so if presented with any fancy annimated intros you can still navigate through to the info you need.

  • Does the pocketsurfer have like microsoft word and powerpoint and stuff like that?

  • Sure, it has the capability to open Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PDF's, Jpg's. You can open them to view only, if you need to create new documents or edit files on the move then online apps such as googledocs or zoho will allow this.

  • @harlemboi212 I too had the PS2 and found it to be a most terrible product.

Datawind are full of hot air!

  • There is now a pocket surfer 3 and datawind have also just put out a ubisurfer which looks good.

  • The Pocket Surfer 2 only loads the visible part of the page, when you scroll down it has to load up that portion of the page. It only displays 256 colours so it is not ideal for viewing pictures, this is what makes it fast and cheap on an old network (gprs). Doesn't play video's and if it did it wouldn't be viewable. The cost of using it is the most attractive feature, and it is an ideal device for general browsing, checking e-mails, accounts, booking etc.

  • wtf, did you drop the iPhone off a building first?

My friend's doesn't take nearly as long, and he's got the first gen.

  • please add audio / video support to the device...

  • pocket surfer can only show u webpages and no audio or video and flash is very poor on it as well as a poor quality and the reason its faster is because it only opens the specfic part of the page u r seeing and the rest will take more time while on iphone it does the whole thing

i have a pocket surfer 2 its made of very bad materials that keep falling apart but if u just want a cheap device with 1 year free internet (20hr/months) this is for u

  • hey i was wondering if u can play music i no u can t go on u tube but can u put headfones in and listen i have just ordered one so please reply

  • Dose Pocketsurfer can copy/cute/paste text from web pages?

also dose it support viewing non-english websites? what about writing non-english characters?

Finaly whats the name of the track you playing in this video? :)

  • no problem m8, you can actually get onto the youtube site, and actually play the movie, but the quality is VERY poor, in terms of it's like 1 frame every 10 seconds so you won't be able to watch a flowing movie just a stuttering one.

  • thx for the info
