Fleegle's drafting technique not only works for Tibetan spindles but also for Russian style support spindles. But it's a bit difficult with a lightweight spindle and gets easier when the Russian spindle fills up and gains weight. In the video I'm spinning on a fairly heavy Russian style spindle from A Spinner's Lair. It's got a bit of a wobble but the weight makes for a long and very stable spin.

  • is there a hook? i cannot see the very top of the spindle...

  • @emopanini Nope, no hook. Just a pointed tip. Because you hold the yarn roughly at a 45 degree angle the yarn pops off the tip and lets the twist travel up into your freshly spun single.

  • I was wondering what the purpose of winding on at the top and then rewinding on the cop was. I have seen this before and was wondering if it was just for winding a better cop or is there some other reason?

  • @restlesspeasant I do it because that way I have more yarn available to wind a neat and stable cop. It's important to have a stable cop to let the spindle spin smoothly and wobble-free even when it's already loaded with a lot fo yarn. I don't think there's any other reason to it.

  • i have got one now , :) i need now step by step lesson :) pls ;)

  • @khalda77 How are things going with the support spindle? I really can't do step by step lessons on video but Beth Smith did an excellent video that helped me a lot. Search for "Russian Spindle Techniques"

    thanx for help

  • @khalda77 It's from Brad from A Spinner's Lair. Unfortunately Brad passed away unexpectedly some months earlier :-( But you can check Etsy for Russian Spindles. There's a few new craftsman popping up doing nice work.

  • i loved this spindle , i wish to know wear can i get one please :)

  • You know you spend too much time window shopping for spindles when you can tell that that's an A Spinner's Lair even when it is hidden under all that wonderfully spun fiber. :P

    Awesome video
