M. S. Megalommatis, Hatshepsut and her Expedition to Pount, the coast of Somalia

Hatshepsut and her Expedition to Pount, the coast of Somalia

Christiane Desroches-Noblecourt, La Reine Mysterieuse (the Mysterious Queen) Hatshepsout, Pygmalion, Paris, 2002, 504p.

A book review by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shamsaddin Megalommatis

Online publications include amongst others:

Discussing with Prof. Muhammad Shamsaddin Megalommatis (Μουχάμαντ Σαμσαντίν Μεγαλομμάτης) about the preparation of further videos out of his articles about Alexandria, I was asked to shift interest again to the South, and focus on one of the most impressive persons of the World History. I was really delighted to hear Prof. Megalommatis speaking to me about the magnificence of a splendid monument that I had visited twice in Luxor, and more specifically in Thebes West: the mortuary temple of the first woman ''King'' of the World History.

The reason Prof. Megalommatis suggested me to make a video out of his article -- book review of a renowned French Egyptologist's book is that the author passed away at the age of 98, just a few months ago. In 2002, at the age of 88, Christiane Desroches-Noblecourt published a book about Queen Hatshepsut in French: La Reine Mysterieuse Hatshepsout; Megalommatis published then this book review in English in an Egyptian monthly. Almost a quarter century earlier, in 1978 -- 9, Megalommatis was Desroches-Noblecourt's student at the Paris Ecole du Louvre.

Through Prof. Megalommatis' book review, we get an insight into the personality and the deeds of Queen Hatshepsut and an acquaintance with what occurred in the splendid coasts of Somalia, the Land of God (ta netser) before 3500 years! I thank Prof. Megalommatis for his continuous and scrupulous help in the preparation of this video, and for his wonderful suggestion for the music background, Omar Khairat's ''Separation''.

  • Wonderful video made of a referential text, great selection of pictures, and splendid Omar Khairat music! *****

Yet, that place is so sinister that whenever I visited it, I felt cold. I prefer Medinet Habu Ramses III temple or even the Ramesseum (Ramses II temple)!

Oddly enough, the Punt colonnade makes me feel in the Paradise!

Is it possible that Good is located inside Evil?

  • @AnaJilK Dear Lily, thank you for your kind words and interesting viewpoints. Looking at one ruler's problems and personality, one can see far deeper than when assessing events without a sense for the protagonists! The History of Mankind is not the history of materialist animals who think only about their economic interests; I remember my friend, Prof. Megalommatis, attacking the Soviet historiography back in the 80s! All that matters in our history is the History of our Thoughts and Feelings.

  • @marcoscassiotis Many thanks for sharing such an interesting video... interesting not only for its informative value. For me, as a human, personal problems of the ruler are even more interesting than historical facts...
