  • Every serious mountaineer knows that "conquer" is really just a metaphor. It is a convenient and useful metaphor all the same, so we all use it. As it happens, *everything* did not align just right. We overcame (conquered) numerous problems on the way to that summit. We spent many hours on our feet, and were good and tired at the end of that long day. Still, we succeeded. That is why standing on that summit was so exhilirating and worthwhile--not to mention the amazing view.

  • Imagine---over twice the altitude of the highest mountain on the East coast. And the much lower Appalachians were somewhat of a barrier to Westward expansion. From the highway South of the Sierra Blanca, it's a LONG drive North well past the Crestones to find another East to West paved road. Most residents of this area will never summit Blanca Peak. This range has a lot of reasons to be taken very seriously by climbers. Don't try if you're not in good condition and ready for weather.

  • You can't conquer a mountain. That would be like saying that a mosquito that lands on your head has conquered you. Everything aligned just right for you to be on Sisnaajini

  • Look down, you might see my moms house...
