Transparency International has three key questions to the World Bank ahead of the 2009 Spring Meetings. TI wants to know: how the World Bank will fight corrupt leaders without hurting the poor; how the World Bank will open itself up to more transparent and accountable lending processes; and what precautions the World Bank will take given the spate of massive infrastructure projects - especially vulnerable to corruption - which constitute a major response to the economic crisis?

  • "Transparency International was founded in May 1993 through the initiative of Peter Eigen, a former regional director for the World Bank. Founding board members included Eigen, Hansjörg Elshorst, Joe Githongo, Fritz Heimann, Michael Hershman, Kamal Hossain, Dolores L. Español, George Moody Stuart, Jerry Parfitt, Jeremy Pope and Frank Vogl. Eigen acted as Chairman and Pope was Managing Director."
