Bougainville, with a populations of only 160,000 has managed to close and keep closed one of the biggest mines in the world. They have held their ground for a decade with antique weapons and home-made guns. These people have taken on the biggest mining company in the world and won.

I'd love to see the perpetrators of that disaster commited against these people and against these ecosystems drink a few cups full of that toxic shit that's now polluting the rivers and land of these people...Those who prefer power over healthy ecosystems full of human and other-than human people should be the ones paying with their health and lives, not those who've been there for a hell of a long time and who'd prefer to continue living as part of the land...

This is not about black or white, this is about money. I'm a european and this mining company makes me sick.
I wish that Bougainville gets their independence and i hope they will not allow another mining company access until they figure out a way they can mine without hurting the environment that much. Seeing this doc makes me believe that Bougainville could become the first country that relies solely on an environment friendly economy and lure in tourists from all over the world.

This video is one of the best I have ever seen. How sad, inspiring and beautiful. The bouganville people are just so resourceful, forced into being sustainable through this mining company, I live in a remote aboriginal community and I am just totally amazed by these people, I agree, all indigenous should watch this, they are sensational role models. Not a white man in sight ( apart from the guy doing the video)
