All parts recorded by me on a Tascam(TEAC) porta05 four track recorder. Song is by the Beatles.
I will give a breakdown how this was recorded. I started out with listening to the original song, and recorded the drums, then bass, then rhythm guitar. So far, I have used three tracks, but still had to put down four more, so I bounced three tracks onto one. Then I recorded the short lead guitar track, and bounced this onto the three tracks I mixed earlier. All instruments are now on track four. I have tracks one two and three open for lead vocals and two harmonies, and started recording with lead vocals(John), and put down the lower(George) harmony, and then the higher(Paul) harmony. The time I recorded this(12/1990), I had a cold. The rhythm guitar has two single coil pickups out-of-phase(great sound), and the guitar sounds out of tune because of a bridge(strip of metal) that was not adjustable. I have better guitars today. I still have this guitar, and will be modding it again someday, adding another pickup, and then wiring it like a Brian May(from Queen) Red Special guitar(many in/out phase tone capabilities).

  • Not Bad better than i thought!!!!!!!!!

  • Excellent!

  • Nice, I am going to dig up my old Tascam soon.

  • I bought a working porta-one for about $40 on ebay back in 2003 or 2004. The porta-05 I bought new back in 1988 used in this vid was about $400.

I heard there are some good software recording/mixing software packages. I may try one of those in the future.

  • You can get them real cheap off eBay right now.

I've bought two of them in the past few months, and I have been having so much fun listening to old 4-track recordings and making new ones, too! You'd be surprised how many people still use Portastudios.

  • How cool is that? How I remember my old 4 track Portastudio :)

  • man, that is really cool, nice job!

  • It's Cool!

  • that was beautiful. i'm going to subscribe right now.

  • awesome
