Not only is the rattle normal, it is intentional!
It prevents the tang from touching the stop bar at the same place every time, thus extending the life of the lock bar.

the rattle is just the stop pin. i put a little gorilla glue on one end (the glue expands as it dries) that took up the excess room and stopped the rattle

That rattle is fairly normal. 2 of my Emersons have it and the other 3 don't. I called Emerson customer service and they said it does not affect function, but that I can send it in.
