A Cornwall man has drowned and a South Glengarry man is charged in his death after two boats collided on the St. Lawrence River late Monday night.
Police recovered the body of Scott Maynard, 24, from the river just east of Summerstown at around noon Tuesday afternoon, said Ontario Provincial Police Const. Joel Doiron.
Maynard was the sole passenger in a small boat powered by an outboard motor and driven by Ryan Lalonde, a 23-year-old South Glengarry resident from County Rd. 2, said Doiron.
boats collided
Maynard fell overboard at around 10 p.m. Monday when their westbound boat collided with a vessel heading in the opposite direction, said Doiron.
An autopsy revealed drowning as the cause of death, he added.
Police arrested Lalonde Tuesday evening and charged him with criminal negligence causing death and failing to remain at the scene of the accident.
Lalonde was released on bail yesterday with a condition to appear in Alexandria court on Aug.
