With Kate out of town (Bea's illness) Uncle Joe is running things. Only trouble is, when he kicks an old man down on his luck out of the hotel, everyone in the valley starts giving him the cold shoulder - even Dog. Not a good sign. So, Joe decides to run away. . .Fate is a funny thing sometimes. As you will see when you watch the show. Bon appetit!

Part 2 Later years: Fall 1966 to Spring 1970, Less physical slapstick comedy and more singing than ever before, like I said, there was some singing in the early years, but nowhere near as much as later(1966 onward) with Mike and Meredith added to the cast.

Since Mike, and and the line up of Linda, Lori and Meredith, were talented singers perhaps more singing is what the cast wanted. And Meredith was more than just a singer, she was a SONGBIRD! I'd think you'd agree with me there.

I think you'd agree that, unlike Green Acres, and The Beverly Hillbillies, which changed very little over their long runs, Petticoat Junction at the end of it's 7 year run in 1970 is an altogether different series from the program that launched in 1963. In fact, it was at the complete OPPOSITE end of the spectrum.

Early years: 1963- mid' 1966: only minimal singing, but lots of down home domestic and physical slapstick comedy... To be Cont.

  • @cmulwee001 Yeah. I really enjoyed the crossover episodes between Petticoat Junction, The Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres. It gave you more of a sense that it was a real place. We all know it wasn't, but still...

  • @1964nickel No reason to cut it out. It reminds us of how good a channel TVLand used to be. Most of my episodes of My Three Sons were taped from TVLand and usually over the end credits the announcer mentions spending some time with "My Three Daughters" referencing that Petticoat Junction is up next.

  • Part 2... A year later, as we all know Meredith MacRae would take over the role, and change the character entirely; no longer a boy crazy dumb blonde as before, but now a strong single independent young woman with a singing career.

  • METV(Memorable Entertainment Television) is now showing season 3 of Petticoat Junction, and I would have to say, season 3 is my personal favorite season of all. This was the first season in color.

This is when the series was at it's all time wacky and slapstick, and sometimes even absurd. There's also a lot of interplay with the cast of Green Acres in the first few, and it's the one year that Gunilla Hutton was on as Billie Jo, who also played her as a dumb blonde the same way Jeannine had...

  • "She hasn't been the same since she met that premed student" Hilarious. I don't know how I missed this PJ episode, since I thought I'd seen them all.

  • Hey now, watch the Bobbie Jo bashing- ha, ha.

I think this is the best episode I've seen of the ones with Kate "out of town."
