Sunrise Poems

Teachers at Mavericks High School Central Broward created this channel to encourage our students to share their favorite words. We want your poems, speeches and lyrics. You can recite whatever you want to recite. Don't use recent music in the background (youtube does not allow copyrighted music in the videos). Hold the camera VERY still or place the video on a tripod.

For example, the lyrics to a commercial were:
... you give a little love and it all comes back to you
you're gonna be remembered for the things that you
say and do

We invite you to record a poem or read the lyrics of your favorite songs or speech. If you see a poem that you like, find the words on a website, or type them or write them on paper, then point a camera at the words and read with feeling.

Upload the video to your youtube channel. Then send the link to us and we'll download your video and paste it on our channel. (We like to use ZAMZAR dot com). Send us your suggestions at TheGuideontheSide@

We plan to convert these videos to audio files, mostly mp3, and let other students make copies of the sound files. On a CD of 700 MB, we could put 100 readings of 7 MB each.

We call this channel "Sunrise Poems" because our school is located at 424 West Sunrise Blvd. -- and we want these words to inspire a new day in our minds.

We teachers expect to learn new songs, new poems and new insights from our students. We hope this channel will be a two-way street of communication.

When you shoot the video (with your reading of the words), point the camera at the words. If you want to create a delightful video of images with the words, go ahead.
We have many ways at the school to assist you in making the words appear on a screen and we can use software to combine subtitles with photos or moving images that you select..

Let's begin a new day. Let's read and listen.
