Giant waves smash into Point Pelican, just east of Point Mugu, California, on 2 Sept 2011. The highway is 30 feet or so above mean sea level, and in 15 years of driving it I have never seen waves landing on the pavement such as here. A cyclone in the South Sea, off New Zealand, is blamed. Of course, global warming has nothing to do with this unprecedented surf.
