Recently, darling of the Canadian left and human bobblehead Brigette DePape made a video complaining about the logo of the new Winnipeg Jets. She says she loves the Jets, but she objects to the silhouette of a CF-18 fighter jet on the logo.

DePape proclaims that this is "free PR for Harper's military agenda". DePape complains that Prime Minister Stephen Harper is spending money on the Canadian military, and fingers Canadian pilots for civilian deaths in Libya.

This is remarkable. When Brigette pulled her "Stop Harper" tantrum on the floor of the Senate, she later declared that Canada needed its own version of the Arab Spring. She has vaingloriously compared her tantrum to the brave Arab protesters demanding democracy in Middle Eastern countries, but she misses a very important detail:

Libyan President Muamar al-Gadhafi was SO ruthless in his response to the Arab Spring that he actually ordered his air force to fire on unarmed civilian protesters. Some of the pilots refused, defecting to Malta. Others actually went ahead with the foul and brutish deed.

Canadian pilots, at the controls of their CF-18 fighter jets -- like the ones that DePape objects to appearing on the Winnipeg Jets logo -- enforced a no-fly zone and prevented Gadhafi from using his military hardware to murder civilian protesters, and somehow DePape seems to think it's Canadian pilots who are to blame for civilian deaths in Libya.

It's undeniable that some Libyan civilians likely died in bombing sorties carried out by Canadian pilots -- even though Canadian pilots aborted missions they thought were too risky to civilians. But Canadian pilots in fact saved thousands of lives in Libya, and allowed the pushback against Gadhafi's tyranny to be successful.

Brigette DePape should be thanking Canadian pilots, not targeting them as proxy targets in her ongoing campaign of resentment against Prime Minister Harper. Her complaints about the Jets logo are equally misplaced... no one is listening to her.

  • so what she is basically saying is our military is shit well fuck you lady and get a life im joining the military my grandfather and great grandfather fought in ww1 and ww2 so ppl like her can be here

  • @Proudcanadian0 I'm sure DePape would be happy to tell you that WW2 was an evil, imperialist war of aggression against Nazi Germany.

Considering what she said about Libya, and the amount of ignorance that has set in amongst the far left since most of our WW2 veterans started to pass away... :(

  • I actually wouldn't say that. But it's pretty clear people like DePape are obsessive about demanding that everything be about THEIR agenda.

  • I haven't watched NHL hockey in 40 years. I'm going to buy a Jets hat tomorrow. I live in Halifax and if we ever get a pro team NHL/CFL they should be called the Halifax Destroyers with a gun ship for a logo.

  • @MikeKMcKenzie That would be awesome. Frankly, they can't keep a CFL team out of the Maritimes forever. The sooner, the better.

  • @PatrickRoss45 true she probably would

  • @PSP92262 exactly my uncles died in ww2 one was killed in italy and the other on normandy so this person could live

  • One cannot begin to fathom the immensity of the fuck I do not give about this spoiled child...

  • @mikeninercharlie That's not nice.

  • Show me one piece of evidence that the logo was designed to be support a Canadian pro military government agenda and NOT by an NHL hockey team and Reebok. One piece.

  • if we didnt keep upgrading our military equipment, all it would take is a conflict and wed be beaten into the ground. the symbol is a tribute to the forces, no publicity for killing and war, your making something into its not, our relations strategy is peace. NO military bases abroad, if u have forgotten we just pulled out of the afghanistan conflict, NATO was in charge of the situation in lybia, canadian forces are apart of nato, and it was lybian pilots that bombed civilans, no canadians,

  • She's right. The logo stinks. It needs bombs and sidewinders too.
