Legends say that people have long heard voices and whispers coming from the waters of Lake Huron, and who knows what Minnie heard as she stood on Smith's Pier....gazing at the blue water, in her white dress, on that last day of her own life. Witnesses say she stood on the pier, turned toward the town, waved to the townsfolk, turned around again to the water, and jumped into the chilled waters. Attempts were made to save her life, but to no avail. Her body rests in a grave in Forester Cemetery, and the old Quay house still stands across the street from the tavern, the house very old and in great disrepair. Both her grave and the house are the testaments to the life and times of Minnie Quay.

  • Fantastic! We're featuring this today on Absolute Michigan (dot com) along with the tale from Linda Godfrey of Weird Michigan!

  • @farlane I am so very pleased that you could use this. Sorry about the slow response to your message.

  • Indeed you are lucky then to be here with your tale to tell, and not in the depths of chilly Lake Huron with Minnie's hand in yours.

  • True story! Those pictures of her headstone were real, just "fancied" up a little with special effects for continuity.

    I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • I was born and raised 3 mies inland from Forester. The road along the lake there is now named M-25. I live on the only road heading inland from the town of Forester. I wish there were pictures or paintings and such of what Forester was throughout the 1800s.
