dunno about respecting spiral; SM usually played the solos, including 'gold soundz' i think. most of the memorable pavement solos like 'summer babe' and 'infinite spark/fin' were him, but he tended to deviate from the recorded versions live. i can understand wanting to be freer than just replicating the album, but it often meant that live the solos were a scree of noise rather than some of the lovely melodies he picked out on record.

he didn't "fuck up the solo" he respected spiral stairs by just doing his own part of a Pavement song solo. Remember this is Steves solo band. I think it was awesome that he did not have another person "duplicate" Spiral's solo guitar part
