I'm looking for binoculars that I can use to look at the sky at night. I was cheated by someone who sold me a damaged pair that can't bring distant objects to form one image. I'm looking at 8x40 Nikon, perhaps.

@writeDVD Nikon bins are very "high value" You can look at the Action Extreme series if you're trying to keep the price down or you can look at the Superior E's for a higher end Porro Prism. Also look at the Swift 8.5x44 820ED. Costs less than the Superior E but gives some incredible performance for $500. The Superior E isn't waterproof but you'll have to decide if that's important or not. Also stop by Cloudy Nights Forum for more info and other astronomical picks. Good Luck!

@writeDVD spotting scopes are excellent for this, i use a simmons prosport 20x60x60, spotting scopes as a whole seem better built and more rugged then comparably priced telescopes, plus they are very compact and can be used for other things like photography and hunting, so they seem more economical, i also use a pair of tasco 12x50 binoculars for nightime viewing. keep in mind you will need a larger objective lens for nitghtime viewing though.

very versatile setup.

Im into astronomy and alongside two telescopes I have pair of 15*70 strathspeys. Currently have to lie on a groundsheet to use them effectively, with weight of the binos on my eye sockets. It works but can only pan slowly in practice, sometimes I roll up a fleece to support my neck.

I really like the attachments you have; these could improve my enjoyment a lot.
