Despite torrential rain and tornado warnings, the Lingo family's new Habitat for Humanity home received the ceremonial first nail. The Forsyth County residence is courtesy of a $100,000 sponsorship by Siemens, which also includes solar inverter technology and construction volunteers. Considering the weather, ironically, this home represents Habitat for Humanity's first solar home in the state of Georgia. Two and half hours after the First Nail Ceremony, the volunteer crew was grabbing boxed lunches and heading home in front of thunder, lightning and tornado warnings. All the first floor walls were built, raised, plumbed, braced, and 25 percent cap plated. More than 42 feet of scaffolding was erected, leveled and stabilized. Crawl space vent portals were adjusted and readied for vent installation; and the crawl space back-fill (nearly half of a dump truck load) was shoveled, wheel barrowed into position, and distributed by hand. Amazing results, amazing people.
