(Springfield, IL) -- March 22, 2011. Illinois Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno (R-Lemont), Senator Matt Murphy (R-Palatine) and other GOP senators last week proposed $6.5 billion in cuts to Illinois education, Illinois human services, and Illinois medicaid to reduce the state's deficit.

The GOP lawmakers also called for the repeal of the new Ililnois income tax increase that raised personal rates from 3% to 5%.

State Senator Heather Steans (D-Chicago) said lawmakers need to proceed carefully on achieving budget reduction savings.

Governor Pat Quinn dismissed the Republican initiative.

  • If a state can't afford to bury the dead, then yes, I think it's time to stop spending money they don't have. Why do politicians wait until crisis time before they act? ========= Illinois officials sent a letter to more than 600 funeral directors around the state to let them know there's no money for funerals for individuals on public assistance.
