Re: Unimogs, the Firefighting bodied ones are now based at Farnham, Camberley and Woking. The Rescue bodied one with the hiab is going to Painshill due to its central location for RTC's and also as it is the Animal Rescue station for the county.
That said the Rescue body has been removed and a Firefighting body has been fitted to it as one of the original ones has a major gearbox/engine problem.
@mab2311 i was on work experience there last july and they said that the dennis they were using (previously damage control@painshill) has gone and there was no replacement, so i would say they are definatly gone, could be wrong! i think sfrs r very muddles lately with all the cutbacks and the stick theyre getting cos of the unimogs. also @ sfrs expo day there was no line rescue there, and they were based @ reigate hq. if u could clear things up that would be great.
@epsom999 When TVAC went bust i do know they spent a lot of time up at Papworth's in Cambridgeshire who where working on the vehicles. They have also now gone bust and im not sure if the defects work has been completed so it will be interesting to see what happens. I have a friend who works in workshops she did say they had been renamed Unicorns lol. I might drop her a line to find out what is happening. Is it definate that the line rescue team has gone from reigate then??
@mab2311 yes, they were built by tvac of lancs, but when they went bust they were officialy given to sfrs, so they are 100% sfrs property. i am pretty sure they r not @ stations yet. They have also been nicknamed unicorns because nobodys seen them (due to them sitting @ reigate for 3 yrs). they ordered 4 1 @ camberly/farnham/woking and a reserve as far as i know. the line rescue team are no longer, as sfrs cut backs i believe. At odiham fire show last year sfrs said these would be their stations
@epsom999 I believe surrey will go out to tender on their own. I am not 100% sure what they will be getting. Until the tendering process is complete they will not choose on a body builder. As far as i was aware Surrey where also going to put Unimogs at Reigate for the line rescue team and also to Hazlemere. Do you know if the Unimogs you mentioned are on the run at the stations as i know they had a number of problems with them and also the company that built them has gone bust.
@mab2311 also, are jdc building them and r they going to be the same spec as b4, i hope so and if so what models? where have u heard bout kent & surrey joint investment?
@mab2311 if it fell through does this mean no appliances or r they goin to go ahead with new 1's without kent..hopefully scania p280's, love 4 them 2 get man 4x4's though.
oh and your earlier comment (below) about the unimogs, there are 4, 1 @ camberley, 1@ farnham & 1 @ woking (with Hiab crane). They have interchangable bodies and have both water tender & rescue tender 'pod things' so they are 'multi role'
@epsom999 From what i have heard they are to be Scania appliances again with the body builder package going out to tender. They where in a joint contract with Kent but the partnership fell through due to conflicting specifications i believe.
