TAPS founder Bonnie Carroll discusses the Universal Pictures rescue adventure "Big Miracle," which stars Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski. Her romance with her husband, Army Brig. General Tom Carroll, was portrayed in the film, which was based on the real- life events that happened during the Reagan administration when three gray whales were trapped in ice in Alaska. The film closes with their wedding. In real life, Bonnie and her husband married after the whale rescue. Sadly, Tom was killed in an army aviation accident, and Bonnie founded TAPS to help all who are grieving the death of someone who served in the military. In "Big Miracle", Bonnie is played by actress Vinessa Shaw and her husband Tom is played by Dermot Mulroney. In this interview with Universal Pictures, she discusses the film's premiere in Washington, DC, which was attended by 400 surviving families.
Thanks for founding TAPS.
