You are correct. "Chikusho" means "damn" or "dammit", while "kuso" means "shit". Some fansubbers just change it to "dammit" as "shit" is a harsher word, as well as sounding similar to "chikusho", so sometimes that mistake is made.

kuso is damn, and I think Chikusho would just be an add-on to make it sound like God Damn It or something like that, but I'm not sure what shit is.
