University Sustainability - What is unique about the program we have here at Loyola is that we're in a very urban environment, we have an urban campus and yet we're going very progressive environmental activities on campus that are significantly lowering our carbon footprint.

The Biodiesel Program started as the solutions to environmental problems course. Where the university was really handing over some sort of environmental issue that they were facing to a group of students to explore, benchmark and to propose test solutions. The students have chosen to take the waste vegetable oil that we make in our deep fat fryers from our cafeterias around campus to make it into biodiesel, which is a fuel that we're now using to advance our shuttle busses between our two campuses
