Read Nick Masons book. It sheds a lot of light on Syd and the rest of the band.

@darkglobe111 Perfect observation my friend, sadly, most of the times when people see someone who doesn't act as everybody else does... they call him crazy.
What should we call them... blinds?

So, I did a little research. He was never diagnosed with any specific mental illness, from what I came up with. Certainly not Aspergers. The most common thing I found on various web sites, was that LSD was a factor. Between the amount he took and whatever his genetic propensity was toward mental illness. At any rate he was still a genius and their may have never been a Pink Floyd without him. The world was made better by Syd Barrett.

I would like to add that he came from a fine intelligent pedigree. His family were doctors and of all sorts of high positions. He was well versed in poetry, literature, and music. He mixed the midieval with the 60s. Strauss leeches for example were a simple doctors tool to him. A lot of people like to label something they dont understand, crazy. Syd likely suffered from a severe nervous exhaustion, but whatever he was never diagnosed as Bi~Polar.

Syd was never shizophrenic or diagnosed as such. I know 3 of his closest friends and he was an extraordinary person. He had several factors that combined and the lysergics was at the bottom of it. He was using LSD straight out of Hoffman's lab. His dependence or intake increased quickly, as they were giving it to each other. He suffered from a lack of sleep from gruelling gigging, and stress to make another hit record. Many factors combined.

@darkglobe111 no, it was his mental instability. I agree, LSD wasn't helping but it wasn't the only reason. If it wasn't the LSD that helped him in his crazy journey, it would of been something else. Its easy to say that "Oh Yeah, it was the acid!" LSD is suposed to help the creative mind, not destroy it.

(as Jenners and Roger Waters have said, no one cared enough to stop and genuinely lend him a helping hand). Asperger's Syndrome can be very serious and no matter how high-functioning an Aspie is (Syd was extremely high-functioning) when they are in emotional situations they just break down. Syd didn't do such a bad job of keeping things together if you ask me. Doctors and counselors tried to figure out what was wrong with him - schizophrenia was ruled out. Emotional disorders are very serious.
I can guarantee that in Australia, we fucking know Syd.
