Biography:
Sarah Burke, has earned her reputation as one of the worldís best skiers. While growing up in Ontario, Canada, Sarah began competing on moguls at age 15 and traveled all over North America with the Ontario Ski Team. Two years later she shifted to Freeride and quickly became a fierce competitor in that arena. Now, at only 29-years-old, Sarah has transformed into a pioneer of womenís freestyle skiing and is responsible for advancing the sport to what it is today. Sarah has continued to forge the way for more womenís events after already proving her unmistakable talent and innovative skills while competing against the boys. After just ten years of competitive skiing, Sarah is now one of the most recognized women in her sport.
Sarah has managed to win every major competition in both Superpipe and Slopestyle. She became a five-time X Games gold medalist when she put down an unprecedented eleven foot 900 and back-to-back flares to win the womenís Superpipe event at the 2011 Winter X Games in Aspen, and again in Tignes, France. In 2007 at the World Skiing Invitational in Canada, Sarah became the first woman to land a 1080-degree spin in competition. That same year, Burke took home her first Winter X Games gold medal, which she successfully defended at the 2008 and 2009 Winter X Games, wining gold for three consecutive years. During 2006, Sarah won a gold medal in the ski Half-pipe contest at the World Cup finals, a gold medal in the Half-pipe and silver in the Slopestyle at the U.S. Open as well as taking the silver medal in the ski Superpipe at the Winter X Games. In 2005, she won the coveted Federation Internationale de Ski World Freestyle Ski, U.S. Freeskiing Open SuperPipe and the World Superpipe Championships. In 2003 Sarah unfortunately tore her MCI at the U.S. Open halfpipe and a week later she ripped her meniscus in her left knee. Despite her injuries, Sarah continued to compete winning four out of the five contests that she entered that year!
Sarahís remarkable performances on the mountain led to her being named one of the most influential skiers in the past 35 years by Powder Magazine in 2007. At the same exciting time, Sarah became the first skier to ever win an ESPY Award when she was honored with ìFemale Action Sports Athlete of the Year.î As a true fearless innovator on the snow and in the air, she was the first woman to throw a 720, 900, 1080, and a flare in competition. When asked what gets her excited to get out of bed in the morning, Sarah admits, ìEating. I love, love, love breakfastóeggs, cereal, chocolateÖ whatever works!î
Sarah is unstoppable in her element. She continues to push the envelope, inspiring other female athletes around the globe. Sarah has taken her love for life to a new level with a Goodwill Tour of Iraq and Kuwait where she visited US Military installations overseas. Sarah has a genuine passion for skiing and it is obvious that she feels truly lucky to be living her life. When asked if she is ever in awe of her experiences, Sarahís response was, ìAll the time. Even when I am home in Whistler and we will have a great day skiing and stop for a second just to look around. Itís gorgeous and sunny and knowing that you get to do what you love. I get that feeling everyday, so it makes my life pretty good.î Sarah Burke is the ultimate combination of unique talent, upbeat personality and natural beauty.

One other thing; the ending of this video was perfect. Her smiling that iconic smile with the words "thank you."
You really did Sarah proud with this. I mean it.

This is the best memorial video I have seen so far. Thank you for not making it a tearjerker. I like to remember Sarah the way she was; happy, vibrant, active, and always smiling or goofing around. We should focus on remembering her life, not her death. Thank you for making a video that does this. It cheered me up immensely this evening.
