Claudine Barreto 'fan' in kidnap attempt charged ABS CBN News

Authorities have arrested a woman in an entrapment operation in Libis, Quezon City last week for allegedly attempting to kidnap actress Claudine Barrettos four-year-old adopted daughter, Sabina.

The suspect, identified as Joanne Castro, is now detained at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) detention facility, lawyer Raymond Fortun, legal counsel of Barretto and husband actor Raymart Santiago, confirmed to ABS-CBN News.

Fortun said Castro had attempted to get closer to the child. He said the suspect also knows too much about the activities of Barretto and Santiago and even the actresss late-night schedules. Prior to the alleged botched abduction, the lawyer bared that Barretto's family had been receiving telephone calls from strangers.

Castro has denied that she attempted to abduct Sabina but she admitted that she was stalking the celebrity couple, Fortun added. Reports said Castro claimed she only wanted to get close to Barretto that's why she was following her every move.

In a text message to ABS-CBN News, Barretto tagged Castros brother, Raul Ecito Castro from Sta. Mesa, Manila, as the mastermind.

He's a police officer and mastermind, according to Joanne SPO1 in Bacood, Sta. Mesa. But what's confirmed is PO1 lang siya pero wala siya sa station, the text message said.

The actress's family also believed that Castro is not just a mere obsessed fan. They suspect that a syndicate targeting families of artists and celebrities might be behind the supposed plot to abduct Sabina.

Castro's father, however, denied the alleged plan of his children to abduct Sabina. He added that he is planning to post the P2,000 bail bond on Monday.
