DD Travel Hammock review - Part 1

info from site:
Size: 2.7m x 1.4m (8.858 ft x 4.59 ft) (comfortable for people up to 6ft 5 and 150kg)
Colour: Olive Green
Weight: 930g (2.05 lbs) (not including webbing)
Includes: 10m of Webbing (230g), 3 x 2m of Elastic Cord and a Small Stuff Sack

Note: My scale weight with stuff sack and skins: 2lbs, 12oz.

Latest Version of our popular Travel Hammock.

Comes with 2 zips (one either side of mosquito net) allowing quick entry / exit either side of the hammock and also allows you to tie the mosquito net up above you, out of the way, when not needed.

As before, this hammock has fine mosquito netting which keeps out all insects (including the dreaded British midge). Entry is via one of two side zips each with two double-sided zippers.

Features include two waterproof base layers so if needed (no trees) it can be set up on the ground as a basic bivi/tent, see pictures. The hammock also features two small internal pockets which are great for storing a torch, phone etc as well as three velcro patches between the two layers to help keep a thermarest/pad in place if cold weather camping. Now comes with an extra 2m elastic cord to create a ridge line inside the hammock to hold lightweight gear such as glasses etc.

You also have the option to lie out in the open (without mosi net) - simply tie the hammock up with the mosi net underneath the hammock.

With the waterproof floor this hammock can be used anywhere and along with our Tarp is the ultimate lightweight camping system! Please note that as the floor is waterproof it (the floor) is not very breathable - if you'd prefer a more breathable hammock please choose our Frontline (the same design but without waterproof base).

UPDATE NOTE: Nick at DD offered a replacement with return shipping. Can't ask for much more than that. Thanks Nick, will keep this one and enforce what unravels. Again, I don't blame DD as much as facility sewing them..

If you want a "survival" hammock, this is the design to beat!, once you add carabiners to the lines. waterproof fabric does not make it as "hot' as some would like you to believe. i'm in the South USA and have no trouble using this hammock in the hot weather. In fact, i have been in 'breathable" hammocks with less ventilation.

  • I'm buying DD one man tent you reviewed, it's good to have people such as you that really take the time to do a such thorough reviews.

  • @Elenkhos appreciate the comment.. DD has the best design bar NONE! Hopefully they fix their prduction line and get that stitching problem and loops solved. For the 95 usa shipped you get a fair product. don't forget the hammock sleeves! In Woodland camo and good stitching it would be a 10/10 in "my" opinion.

  • @Elenkhos there are so many out there and it does become confusing. Hennessy and warbonnet make popular camping hammocks with gather ends...alot of people like them, I have tried both and like neither.. that's a personal choice and both are not made for survival in my opinion but for fun camping.

  • For a bug out bag this DD has become the one for survival. Design is excellent and double side zippers for either side exit is a big plus! Although I have issues with the thread comming out everyplace and the color does not blend as well. Which puts Claytor back on top with Woodland Camo and quality stitching.

  • @Justaguyinnc Im sorry I'm pretty new to this... thanks for the clarification

  • @Elenkhos That's pretty hard to say. with or without bugnet? For what purpose? quality? best lay? For my size under 200lbs or for a bigboy rated 350 plus? I really like my 40 dollar Rothco Jungle hammock for price and normal lay. This DD hammock can be used in many ways and is lighter. Claytor Jungle Hammock feels the best and has better quality. The ajillis is more compact and lighter than all. Works well with rainfly after suspension changed.

  • In your opinion what is the best travel hammock?
