This is a loose interpretation of some music by a pianist named Lang Lang which appears in the movie, "The Painted Veil".

By request, I've uploaded an mp3. http://rapidshare.com/files/199019402/dostoevskys_waltz.mp3.html

Only 10 people can download, so if you have a problem and want the mp3, let me know.

"River Waltz"
"Gnossienes No. 1"

I have chosen to call my reinterpreted improvisation "Dostoevsky's Waltz" and to base my performance on this quote:

"Pain and suffering are always inevitable for a large intelligence and a deep heart.
I believe really great men must experience great sadness in the world."
"Crime and Punishment"
Fyodor Dostoevsky

  • Thank you for sharing. That was very beautiful.

  • My pleasure!

  • dude can you pleeaassee send me the notes to that song please

  • This was all improvised, but you should probably be able to find some similar music online. Look for Erik Satie's "Trois Gnossiennes". I found the sheet music pretty easily for that. If you can't find it let me know and I'll do some research.

  • so what type of music do you play? Ha, i joke...

this is a genuinely amazing piece of music. Hypnotic and utterly engaging. Nice one man, perhaps soon i will be able to play this fluently.

  • I actually downloaded Satie's "Trois Gnossiennes" recently. Satie is an amazing composer. There are 6 Gnossiennes total, but the first 3 are the only ones written as a set. My favorites are 1, 3, and 5. Very slow... He has a way of making combinations of notes work that wouldn't appear to work. And he uses no bars! Truly a revolutionary composer.

  • That was simply wonderful. I understand exactly where your coming from because I am exactly the same. Albeit, I am still learning the piano, but it is my form of sublimation as well, just didn't realize it until very recently. And that quote... It summarized the thoughts and feelings I've been dealing with my whole life, so thank you very much.

  • That was truly wonderful....

  • Dostoevsky, what a genius. Lived the vid mate, put a lot of heart into it.

  • By the way, thanks for the words of encouragement.
