For 2010, 'The Great Britain' railtour was ran for the third time and extended to nine days of touring the country using various steam locomotives and some heritage diesel traction.

In this video we start at Bishton on Good Friday 2nd April with Ian Riley's 'Black 5' number 44871 being lead by the NRM's 'Britannia' number 70013 'Oliver Cromwell' on a loco move from Crewe to Bristol Barton Hill Depot, ready for 'The Royal Dutchy' the following day. I captured that railtour at Totnes, as can be seen in the video.

After this we move onto 'The Great Britain III' itself, starting with GWR 'Castle' number 5029 'Nunney Castle' on Day 1's London Paddington-Bristol leg, seen at Keynsham, complete with 175 as the reporting number, as this is the GWR175 year. Later that evening we see the locomotive running with its support coach to Didcot ready for their GWR175 celebrations at the beginning of May.

The final day which I saw was Day 2, running from Bristol to Plymouth and return using 'Diesel Hydraulic' Class 52 number D1015 'Western Champion' (running on one side as D1009 'Western Invader') on the outward, captured at Yatton. The return leg was hauled by 44871 and 70013. A classic location at Cockwood Harbour, plus station shots at Tiverton Parkway and at Bristol Temple Meads provide the shots of this journey. Also featured, mainly dead in tow, is WCRC Class 47 number 47670.

There are several mistakes throughout, down to me and also the tripod on Day 2 as a screw needed tightning and I didn't have a screwdriver on me.

With thanks to GJDobbzy (Crewe-Bristol move), theonlyadsrulz (Royal Dutchy and Day 2), jakeyboygen (Royal Dutchy) and jamielw143 (Day 1) for company throughtout the four days.

  • @JBTEvans LOL thats cool its like that here in the states too one train horn varies from another I wish we cared more about our steam like the people do in the UK I agree nothing beats a steam locomotive whisle and i used to find the Europian Steam whistles annoying too high pitched but I started rideing steam in Germany and got used to the Steam Whistles one country varies from another and now I like the Whistle sounds there they belong I guess I am just partial to our US steam whistles

  • @JBTEvans yes indeed however I am disapointed to read that they put ticket gates at Kings Cross station I used to enjoy walking out on the platforms when in London oh well times are changing I guess everywhere I started gaining interest in the UK trains after doing a few tours with Railway Touring Co
