@ECsponger2 they are only wearing hoods and gloves as when they stand up they would be freezing from the temperature and the wind chill factor as well but the sea as stated above dose not vary to much !!!!

Thurso East is a better wave than this film shows, you've got the swell from the wrong direction that day and the tides are wrong, wave very full. It's a fast wave that doesn't break down in the right conditions.
If Thurso East is working no-one oges left!

Hey man I live in Aberdeen I used to live in Brazil where I surfed a lot, since moving back to Aberdeen I havent done any surfing! But I will be getting my driving licence in a few weeks so i have a lot more opportunity to go searching for waves. Where would you reccomend travelling from Aberdeen? and also is a trip up to thurso worth it? I am not a pro or anything I amcomfortable in 5-8ft waves

The wave certainly does get way better than this although I don't think there is anything wrong with the tides- nature does it's own thing. We simply film when there's a wave with someone on it. Thurso East is a 6-star competition venue on the World Qualifying circuit and is 9th best wave in the world.

The water isn't too bad really. It varies by 1 degree through the season and is warmed by the Gulf stream. You can swim in it in just shorts. Thewaves certainly get big, that's why I stay on the shore!

It varies by more than that! At the start of Autumn the sea is about 14 deg and then goes down to about 5 deg about January time. When It's been been snowing its much colder as the river pisses icy water straight into the lineup.

@osu45f The overall sea temperature remains consistant. At the shoreline it varries due to freshwater like you say but it is only the fresh water that changes temperature so widely.
