  • Hey Shred, need your honest opinion. I grew up using Al DiMeola as my model, and committed to exclusive alternate. But I think there are instances when economy is better. I've gotten quite proficient at alternate and I'm concerned at this point using economy could just make me worse because I'd get caught between and be sloppy. Can you give me advice on what do to here? I need this information before committing to your program.

    Thanks!

  • @flowerdrop1 I used to belong to the same school. Al is awesome. But on this particular thing he is dead wrong. How could it be bad to have more than one picking technique? The more great tools the easier it is to get the job done. Alternate picking and economy picking are such different things that there's no chance that you're brain is going to mix them up and make you sloppy or less precise. My alternate picking technique improved when I took up economy picking. Thanks!

  • i always wonder for what youd actually use that technique... i understand that it's fun playing that fast. but imo it'd destroy any song.

  • @PhouFoo You can play it with a clean tone also. Apply it to another scale, play it on an acoustic and you get a totally different feel. Imagine what flamenco would be like without fast runs. It's like blues without the bends. Every style has it's challenges. In metal, speed is one of them. And it's an integral part of the overall sound of this style. Slower notes convey more mellow emotions while alternate picking runs convey aggression or passion.

  • nice!! the tone is hot like the exhaust coming out of a borla tailpipe !

  • @beasz1974 Yeah! I like that corroded single coil sound :o)
