Two polar bears at Himeji castle zoo have less than half the water the Hippo has, Good on you for shooting the video's , I cannot understand why places like these zoos are still allowed. I just got back to Aus I will contact some Aussie zoo's to show them how the kangaroos are treated.

omg, its the japanese, they kill whales, have terrible zoo, wtf, if u went to any zoo in the UK u wouldnt see anything like this, attually ive never seen a bad or cruel enclosure in britain

I moved away from this area of Japan a couple of years ago and haven't been back since. My guess is nothing has changed. I had numerous meetings with the manager of this privately owned zoo, accompanied by local government officials, but to no avail. I provided him with lots of information about environmental enrichment and suggested he move the elephant to a more spacious location, but he just doesn't care enough to make the effort.
A very sad and frustrating story.
