S 1867 Sen Kirk Floor Speech

Senator Kirk, R-IL, November 30, 2011, floor speech in support of the Feinstein amendment to S. 1867, the FY 2012 Defense Authorization bill. Amdt No.1125 clarified the applicability of requirements for military custody with respect to detainees of citizens apprehended within the borders of the united States. The amendment failed by a vote of 45-55.

theres only one way off stopping this getting worse and that involves a group like anonymous full of people from a military type background that hold these people accountable, people will start choosing their lives over greed and corruption

Personally, I hope this goes to the Supreme Court for Judicial Review. If our Justices of the Supreme Court actually value the United States Constitution then, they shall find this unconstitutional and THAT will kill this bill. Right then, right there.

@deadrepublicantv I think you're mixing a few issues. The Feinstein Amendment was voted down 45-55, the ORIGINAL legislation that you're talking about that received a 93-7 vote, with Kirk and Paul the only 2 Republicans to vote against it. You should also consider why - Perhaps its because Kirk was a congressman in the richest right leaning district in the Country.

Only had time to watch until 6:11 but in that time I felt hope for this country that at least ONE of our elected officials can read and understand the Constitution instead of just talking about it as an abstract. The fact that our Constitution was not even an AFTERTHOUGHT for the rest of them is what makes me weep for a nation which had such great promise. It is good to know that the President has said he will veto the bill as it reads now.
