Ushering may sound like an easy Sunday service task, but try doing it for three days, and you'll find it's not an ordinary ministry. However, for the four UCF volunteers, Han-han, Che-che, Gaga and July, welcoming and assisting delegates and guests to the Dr. Morris Cerullo Passing On The Elijah Mantle Conference was a breeze.
From September 16 to 18, 2009 at the Pacific Grand Ballroom, Waterfront Hotel Lahug, the four volunteers, joined other volunteer ushers from host Citichurch Cebu and other churches. They faced a crowd of over 5,000, greeting and assisting them to their seats, guiding and walking them through the comfort rooms, and answering questions.
The ushers were also expected to help in maintaining order during the conference. As policies were observed, the ushers served as enforcers and unavoidably encountered disagreements from the delegates.
Asked about what lessons they have learned as ushers, all four agreed. "You give (more of your) patience to them", July said. "You have to stretch your patience", Han-han agreed.
The four volunteers, who invested time, effort and money to the conference, chorused that they would love to usher again in future conferences.
Psalm 84:10 gives us encouraging words about ushering.
"Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked."
