If you want to base your scientific understanding of the universe on bronze age documents from an era when the known universe was a small region around the middle east, where disease was caused by god's judgement rather than bacteria or viruses, where rape and murder was condoned, where mental illness was diagnosed as demon possession, where the sun can stop in the sky, where global genocides by drowning were considered just... go for it.
