Madison Square Garden (video taken by LARRY CHIANG)

This is exclusive on this YouTube Channel on "What They Don't Teach in School"

I collect it and help you execute stuff that seems hard or impossible to do. It is under my signature recipe maneuver: Gua Gua Guacamole. It is what I teach Stanford engineers at ENGR 145.

*** NEW ARTICLE ***
By Larry Chiang

I blog about what they don't teach in school.

Jeremy Lin has gone from last on the bench to leading scorer.

How??

Here are things I see in Jeremy Lin that I have seen in others. The New York Knicks hosted me Friday February 10 at Madison Square Garden. The full Jeremy Lin post game press conference will be available on my www.YouTube.com/larrychiang on Monday 7am EST

-1- Thank Your Random Mentor That Taught You Tactical Tidbits

Monday, Feb 6, after the Jazz Game, Jeremy Lin thanked his Golden State Warrior d-league coach.

-2- Get Yao Ming as Your Dial-a-Mentor

I was incredibly curious.

How does Jeremy Lin execute the intricate pick-and-roll like a 5 year veteran?!

My answer came during the Knicks press conference. Yao Ming mentors him daily.

The question was posed by a non-basketball Asian reporter: "Do you know Yao Ming?"

Room chuckles.

Shocking answer. Yao Ming and Jeremy Lin talk daily. Probably about pick and roll.

A pick and roll has a small man and a big man. Jeremy Lin and Yao Ming went over situation, scenarios, subtleties, iterations of the various pick and roll possiblilities.

Get a mentor. Accelerate your development.

-3- Fly In Your Mentor

Friday night postgame party. Jeremy Lin, you just set a season high point total for the Knicks. What are you going to do to celebrate?

Lin spent time with his college coach.

-4- Pattern Iterate

Plays fall into patterns.

People fall into patterns.

Espn court-side reporter asked Jeremy Lin during the marquee post-game interview, "What do you want to do better?"

Jeremy Lin: 'Hit Tyson Chandler with better passes. I'm gonna go watch film' ESPN's Lisa Salters: "When now?! You just won. You're gonna watch film NOW?! Jeremy Lin: 'right. now.'

Pattern recognize.

Pattern iterate.

Pattern replicate

Obi Wan, u might call her annoying but the 'dumb' question she asked about Yao Ming floored all the pro reporters in the packed room. She asked about whether Jeremy Lin talked to Yao Ming. Jeremy said: "Daily". It answers how he has learned the subleties of the pick-and-roll like a fifth year pro.
