A tribute to my friend and chase partner Eric Nguyen, who passed away on September 9, 2007. Eric was one of the great storm observers of his generation, an uncanny forecaster and a gifted photographer whose imagery is widely-reproduced around the world. He was a loving son, caring father to his two boys, and a friend who will always be missed.

Please visit Eric's website here:

Please consider a contribution to the Eric Nguyen Memorial Endowed Scholarship here:

Eric's book with Mike Hollingshead is available for preorder here:

Special thanks to the following people for their imagery: Steve Vanderburg, Bob Fritchie, Rachael Sigler, Paul Stofer, Scott Blair, Scott Currens, Scott Eubanks, Graham Butler, Tony Laubach, Jeff Lawson, Glenn Dixon, Brian Fant, Steve Miller, Clinton Norwood, and Aaron Kennedy.

  • He's chasing storms in Heaven now. Proper tribute, top class.I have empathy for Eric, I've been there too. I know this post is four years after the fact but my sympathies to his family and friends

  • I had no idea that Eric had passed away! My gosh, he was young. I graduated in 1978. So sorry for your loss. Please accept my deepest condolences.

  • it was his chase pics that got me off my ass and out taking stills of storms

  • Great guy Eric. R.I.P

  • That was so nice of you to create a video for your friend. May he R.I.P.

  • By the way at 5:27 the clouds are so awesome. They are called like mammatus clouds or something like that. Signals a possible tornado. I wonder if he saw the Greensburg tornado of May 2007. That was quite a storm.

Anyways, my heart and prayers go out to him and his family and friends. He enjoyed life and had everything going for him, but sometimes life is cut short and we have 2 accept the fact that the ones we love are gone no matter how hard it is.

  • Awesome tornado pics. Hopefully no one was hurt. I never wanna get caught in one. Thats for sure. Its mother nature at full force. Sometimes she can be quite a bitch.

Eric took amazing pictures. A lot better than I have taken of anything. Half the time my finger is in the lens or I take a picture of the ground instead. Yet some pics don't turn out bad. Lol there.

Thats so sad that a life was taken at such a young age with so much more that was still ahead of him.

  • very sad... I never knew him, but after viewing his photos and then reading about his tragedy, I was touched. My prayers go out to his family and friends and may God give them strength to endure.

  • i vaguely remember talking to eric a few times way back in the day, but i gotta say, he's one hell of a guy and a damn good photographer. you can see how much passion the guy had for severe weather. rip bud. ill be sure to make every chase for you. still, just a few days after the one year mark, you're still missed.

  • Can't believe it's been a year already, such a huge loss to the chaser community.

God Speed Eric We miss you and are praying for your family
