There are two forms of nationalism. One form is for the people and there national identity and well being. Three examples of this form: Prussia after the 30 years war, Iran under muhammad musaddiq, Early America, and India after colonialism. Then there is the nationalism your talking about, that is nationalism for the government institution. The first form can even be in opposition to the government and promotes a government for the people because that is it's only purpose.
