QuickShift Episode: Drift driving tuner cars Mitsubishi Evo Subaru WRX STi Skyline MRT track day. In this episode of QuickShift we head out with Brett Middleton and the MRT Performance Team for a tuner car skid pan track day event that saw a great range of performance cars from the Mitsubishi Evolution Evo IX X, Subaru Impreza WRX STi to the Nissan Skyline in attendance.

As usual the day was a trunk load of fun and extremely informative and the gourmet BBQ lunch was yet another highlight, even if the extra weight around our belt lines tended to increase our braking distances.

A skid pan track day is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to improve their car control skills and really get a feel for what their car can do. You don't have to be the next Ken Block and you don't even need a high performance tuner car to attend this kind of track day. There are often experienced instructors on hand to give you in-car instruction on the finer point of car control and safe driving.

For drivers who have always wanted to learn the fine art of drifting a car in a safe and controlled setting, the skid pan offers a great place to hone your skills. With a flooded skid pan the effort required to set the car into a drift condition is greatly reduced. Once the vehicle is "drifting" you'll have the opportunity to learn how the elements of throttle control, braking and steering all work together to maintain the perfect drift consistently.

We have to send a big thank you out to Brett at MRT for arranging yet another fun and educational track day. You can get in touch with Brett and the MRT Performance Team over at www.mrtperformance.com.au.

We'd also like to thank Michael over at Dragon Image Australia for his years of experience with camera rigs and assisting us with developing our new suction mounted in-car rig. We'll be doing a short episode on that soon! You can reach Michael and his team over at www.dragonimage.com.au.

  • When is the next episode out? And at 41 seconds from the start why does the black Evo seem to have some sort of launch control?
