2000 DOHC engine Ford Taurus. Cranking up the car seems ok, except for the noise at 8 seconds...what the heck was that grinding sound? The AC compressor kicking on? I usually leave my climate control set at some temperature (buttons/EATC, I don't have the 3 knob style unit) and the owner's manual says to do so. No idea why the idle jumps up again at 21 seconds. I hit the OFF button at 28 seconds (you hear the EATC creak).

  • Yo where did u get them gauge faces? Im looking for some for my 02 Taurus. I have the traction control as well

  • Gauge faces came out of a 2003 Sable with beige interior. They are complete plug and play. Lemme know if you want some instructions.

  • Oh ok well im just looking to get the white faces on the guages. I know how to plug the stuff in and such. Thanks though. Good luck on your car.

  • Ahhh ok. Well they only came on 2003 models. Taurus SELs with beige interior got them, and all beige interior 03 Sables. Good luck with your search for 'em.

  • It is normal especially at cold starts for the engines RPM's to fluctuate like that. And yes that does sound like the air compressor. Shouldn't a huge concern. Maybe the compressor might need a small oil charge.

Most of this won't happen when the car is warmed up.

  • Ahhh ok, that's normal? Cool. Had a refurb. Motorcraft compressor/clutch/coil put on recently...noise is gone. Thanks for the info!

  • I had this same noise, sounded like a grinding noise coming from the bottom of the engine but ended up being the bearings in the water pump.. sound was traveling through the block. replaced the pump and everything is all good.

  • Some cars if the compressor is low in the system. Like if it's at the bottom of the engine then it will turn the compressor on then off a couple seconds after startup. This is to keep the system lubed up. It will do this even if you have the AC off.

  • the car is kinda old its normal just some loose plastic bottom shields or something like that....

  • I had a AC fluid leak on my 04, Ford dealer fixed it up.
