Norman G. Kurland, J.D., President of the Center for Economic and Social Justice and Co-Founder, Coalition for Capital Homesteading, delivers the keynote speech at April 15, 2011 "Own the Fed" Rally at the Federal Reserve, Washington, DC. Kurland outlines a radical overhaul of today's tax system under the Capital Homestead Act, which would tax all sources of income above an exemption level at a single rate, thereby eliminating all payroll taxes on employers and employees, balancing the budget, and enabling all citizens and families to cover their basic living needs (including health and education) and accumulate a direct property stake in income-producing wealth. He then calls for the Federal Reserve to use its existing powers under Section 13, Paragraph 2 to create new asset-backed money and credit for private sector growth, financed through Capital Homesteading mechanisms that would enable every citizen to become an owner of future productive capital. To ensure greater transparency and accountability of the Federal Reserve to citizens, Kurland explains how citizens should "OWN the Fed", not simply "End the Fed".
