Theatrical Trailer for the unreleased 1986 film 'ROBOTECH: The Movie' also known as 'ROBOTECH: The Untold Story'

The OAV anime 'MEGAZONE 23 Part I' was used as the base of 'ROBOTECH: The Movie' along with footage from the anime series 'Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross'. Planned for an 1986 release, the film went unreleased after a test screening, with only a few foriegn home video releases.

I like to think of both Macross(etc) and Robotech being different parrallel universes, and who says, Macross will never leave Japan, then how come we've all heard of it, sheesh, noone gives crap to Transformers for ripping of Jetfire, it's great how we can mash everything up, Freedom of Choice people....it's cool we've got all thesee different spins on things... noone says the Dynaman Parody is ripping off the original Dynaman, either, that'd be stoopid.. thanks for posting this, I enjoy it lots

Transformers didn't rip off Jetfire. Hasbro legally got rights to issue the toy from Bandai before Matchbox (makers of the Robotech toyline) could get it. The most logical reason for the redesign however was since Takara owned the Transformers brand as well as Hasbro and there was (at the time) the idea that Taraka would want to air the show in Japan and wouldn't want to promote their rivials toys. This is why other TF toys like Roadbuster and Whirl didn't turn up in the show.

Emerson and Leonard are actually in the movie, so it does contain two characters from the show, but that doesn't exactly cover "all your favourite ROBOTECH heroes".

I love how it says "See your favorite Robotech heroes!" You know, like....well, no one from the 3 shows is in this. This is something else.

Anyways, Megazone 23 is very cheap on DVD so you can watch the real thing easily these days.

- well aware of that. was just an example. I love how there are all these different cross overs and such. It makes me wonder how Omega Supreme and Sky Lynx managed to appear in the show in Japan as they were also not Takara or available in Japan until Encore thanks to Tomy...

robotech the macrosss saga is the best saga there is, the other two are crap and really fake compared to the macross saga. I understand battle jets could be relistic but transforming motorcycles is just stupid

Apparently what we have here is failure to communicate. You're absolutely right about "your favorite Robotech heroes" being a false statement. I wasn't arguing about that. I was arguing with your claim that "no one from the 3 shows is in this". The fact that some of the footage is from Southern Cross doesn't matter; it's still part of the movie, so those characters do appear. As for Yellow, I had a theory about him that I would explain if there was room in this comment. There isn't.
