MARIETTA, GA - The 1st annual Nike Explosion matched up the AAAAA defending champs and # 1 ranked team in the nation, Milton Eagles aganist the strong Miller Grove Wolverines looking to threepeat as AAAA state champs.
The Eagles led in the first quarter 15-12 sparked by Ohio State bound Shannon Scott with eight points but they would eventually succumb to the length, speed and aggressive play of the Tony Parker led Wolverines. The Wolverines out scored the Eagles 17 to 8 in the 2nd quarter to take a 29-23 lead at half.
The Wolverines exploded for 27 third quarter points, putting the game out of reach and claiming the top spot as Georgia's best team. Parker led all scorers with 20 dominating the paint on both ends of the floor. Speedy junior point guard, Thomas Marshall played well scoring 14 points and senior forward Henry Brooks added 10 for the Wolverines. The Eagles had a late surge in the 4th behind Shaq Johnson with 10 points in the quarter but it wasn't enough as the Wolverines held on 71-61. Scott had 18 points, Johnson scored 15 and Julian Royal finished with 14.
