Look up the Vector W2 supercar from 1983. That is how amazing the Donovan V8 is.

i would just sell the maro and buy one with an ls1 in it already, unless your going to trick the insurance company, make them think you still have a v6. which would probably save you a lot of money in the long run, i would still get the lt1 tho and bore it out and stroke it. and as far as reliability goes, they put the lt1 in the buick roadmaster, chevy caprice, and the caddy el derado for a reason, its very very reliable. but i think it would be interesting to see a 5.3 in a maro, good luck!!

Im actually on an ls1 website, ive only found 1 or 2 other people that have done this swap. Youre right, there is alot of work to be done(replace intermediate steering, drill new holes or replace the stock k member, among other things). I wanted the reliability of a newer engine and decided that the 5.3 was the way to go. I already have the 3.8 out my vehicle and the 5.3 is waiting for the trans. to be prep'ed. So i did allllllooooooot of research.

and with the 383 lt1 you would be puttin about 370 to the rear wheels. you would save a LOT of time and money bro, trust me, many people have failed this, takes a lot of framework to fit that vortec in, not to mention you have to redisign the cooling system completely (even the hose layout needs to be changed).. you better be pretty experienced with vehicles.. good luck though!

you have no idea how much work your getting into, you could save AHELLOFALOT of time by just buying an LT1 and just making it a 383, increase the stroke a bit, dart the heads, roller rockers, get a 350 roller cam, the LT4 intake, and if your going to end up doing something like that, make sure you get titanium pushrods, wouldnt wanna bend or even fracture one, but the setup you want would involve hidden work that you wouldnt even think of that would be needed. ive known people that tried this..

the lt1 blows, the ls1 is expensive.
the vortec 5.3 is exactly the same as the ls1 minus a few cubes and the fact that its an iron block. Price is the main problem.
If i was to put an ls1 in, the changes wouldnt be any different than putting the 5.3 in.
Also i get to spend that money i saved on performance parts.
Ill have a video up soon..

ummm, why a 5.3? why not just go with the a 5.7 LT1 or LS1 that they actually put into the z28's and ss's, they bolt right in and you wouldnt need to change up as much stuff as you would with the 5.3..

yeah, 3.8 liter.
its getting a 5.3 soon though.
the 3.8 was rated at 200hp to the flywheel.
after the bolt ons the camaro was prolly at 180-190 to the rear wheel.
I have a 3.8 and the only way that engine will ever get replaced is with a Donovan V8.
5.3 isn't a good performance engine at all. Its like a V8 arche swap for the fiero, you might have a V8 but you won't be putting up good numbers.

I had to look up the donovan, interesting I must say. But the 5.3 is a great engine, the engineering that went into it is amazing and after the addition of headers and x pipe the numbers should be around an est. 290hp to the rear wheel.
