High in the Tibetan mountains on the southwest border of China, lies the source of several great Asian rivers, including the Mekong. For generations Tibetan tribes have survived by working the salt wells on its riverbank. It is from these wells that a small Tibetan village has drawn its name - Yanjing meaning Salt Wells.
For over a thousand years, the villagers have lived a primitive and simple life, almost completely cut-off from the outside world. Geographically isolated, a unique culture and tradition has survived in Yanjing, exceptional to the overwhelmingly Buddhist culture and tradition typical in Tibet. The Yan-jing population is Catholic - the remaining heirs of the first Catholic mission, built some 150 years ago by European missionaries who hoped to use it as a bridgehead to head deeper into China. Until recently, only a few of the original descendents survive. Today, however, the Catholic Church in Tibet is experiencing a renaissance with the ordination of a Yanjing born priest, Fr. Lu Ren Di, who is slowly revitalising the Catholic faith in Yanjing.

  • What a delightful video! I had often wondered whether there were any Catholic churches in Tibet. Now I know; just one. I have travelled a lot around Asia (never to Tibet) and have been surprised to find churches in some very remote areas. The missionaries (mostly French and Italians) who spread the Faith to so many areas in Asia in the 19th century did a wonderful job. We thank God for them and remember them in our prayers.

  • @ 9:10

The 79 years old Tibetan lady said she gain her happy life from the CCP and Chairman Mao Zedong...

Though Mao Zedong caused many mishaps while running China, but it's true that many Tibetan still honour him and hang Mao portrait in their home.

Anyway i am very happy to see my fellow Tibetan brother and sister Catholic running their Church which is also supported and rebuild by CCP now.

By the way i believe these Tibetan Catholic don't need Dalai Lama to be back as their leader

  • @ChinaHainan i hope you were not in communist china until and unless u urself are a commie ur words are different from your heart i pit you

  • hopefully they did'nt fill them up with the old catholic guilt, cos they did a fine job everywhere else

  • @ChinaHainan i don't think these people are tibetans..they're some other minority group living within tibet...there are quite a few ethnic groups living in and near tibetan regions...she's not speaking tibetan and nor is she dressed in tibetan clothes.

  • @ChinaHainan both christian as well as muslim tibetans respect the dalai lama...no matter what, china should return tibet back to tibetans. it's not their land..china only wants tibet because of it's great location and resources. most tibetans aren't going to be honest about their view about mao because there are government minders in every village and towns....on camera, they will pretend to respect mao but in reality, many prefer tibetan leadership over tibet.

  • I Heard Bon was monotheistic.

  • ......means unconditional love is asked not with hidden agenda !

sorry to tell you that but it seemed here flooded with pro Christians mixed with chinese nationalists.

  • THESE ARE CALLED RICE CHRISTIANS, because they manipulated them same as the Communists did !

    Buddhists do not convert anybody.
