  • What made me laugh was how she threw out a kicker B-flat at the end, and then cut it off and ducked for the bow in one clean sweep. Classic Leontyne. Work it out!!!! Thanks for posting!

  • Incredible! Notice her style, poise, and Southern diction with a classical flair! Awesome indeed. It is a pleasure to hear David Garvey as well--they complement each other perfectly!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This may well be the best soprano of her generation (perhaps of any).

  • @bshampton117 Yes, he's an excellent pianist; and, Leontyne a gift from God.

  • One of my mother's favorite singers.

  • @thesgreene999 Interesting I feel the opposite, Singing the Negro Spiritual preserves a a dying tradition the Black Church isn't even preserving as well gives the Black Classical Musician an outlet of expression through music that is familiar to them. So of course the white audience want to hear this Genre of Classical music through the people who understand it the most. you have to realize that many of these spirituals were written exclusively for the Classical Voice. Education is Key!

  • This song reminds me of everything that was wrong about America in the 20th century and before. Classic opera voice singing a negro spiritual because thats what the white folks in the audience expect, and the white piano man who really gets down with black music providing a soul-less accompaniament but really thinking he is jamming. SMH This is so sad to me.

  • And the fantastic accompaniment by David Garvey deserves to noted !

  • magical

  • ohmigosh. hadnt thought about this lady in Years. THIS IS TRULY CLASSIC. thanks, i needed this.

  • The grandest diva that ever lived delivers with such grace, style, and interpretation like there never was.

Marcus Garvey is good for himself isn't he? Who is really feelin this song the most: Garvey or Price? It's a toss up if you ask me.

  • The voice ahhh yes, but check out Garvey's precision as well as the bounce on the last chord, ummm what a great player he was.
